Happy Veterans Day!
I’m writing from central Pennsylvania, west of Philadelphia (Go Eagles!). It’s been a week of reflection and family connection. My mother-in-law, Betty, passed away this past Tuesday at 93 after a full and adventurous life. We gathered yesterday to celebrate her memory with three generations present — truly the passing of a generation.
My sister-in-law, Betty Ann, has naturally stepped into the role of family matriarch, and John is now the eldest male. You can probably imagine how many “chiefs” we had giving orders — let’s just say it got lively at times! The youngest cousins kept things lighthearted, showing off cartwheels on the dance floor (in hard-soled shoes, no less!).
We also learned that Mary’s godfather, Fran, has been diagnosed with blood cancer. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers as we meet with him today to see how we can best support him.
On a lighter note, Mary introduced a young man to the family — a retired Irish Marine with dual U.S./Irish citizenship who proudly wore his clan kilt in full regalia. It certainly added a memorable touch to the day.
It’s 29 degrees here this morning, but thankfully no snow yet. I’ll be back in the office Friday and can always be reached by phone, text, or email. I’m very much looking forward to returning home to our wonderful Georgia weather.
