I hope you had a meaningful Memorial Day weekend. John and I attended the VFW ceremony held each year at the St. Marys Cemetery at 10am. There was an excellent turnout, and Mayor Lockhart was in attendance. We are very much looking forward to the procession at the waterfront this evening at 5pm.
As part of the upcoming 250th anniversary celebrations, the Catholic Church has organized a special chain of Mass celebrations focused this year on the Eucharist. The first officially recognized Mass in the new American Colonies was held in St. Augustine, so the observance began there yesterday with a Mass at the Basilica.
Following the service, the Host was placed in the Monstrance — a large display vessel centered around the Eucharist — and transported to Jacksonville. A Mass will be held there today at 3pm, after which the Host will travel by boat to St. Marys. The Bishop of Savannah will meet the boat at the waterfront at 5pm, and participants will then process together to Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church for a 6pm Mass.
Tomorrow, the journey continues to Brunswick, Darien, and Savannah before proceeding through all thirteen original colonies, ultimately concluding in Philadelphia during the Fourth of July celebrations commemorating America’s 250th anniversary.
It is rather special to be able to participate in even this small part of such a historic and faith-centered event

Registration is open for the 2026 National Eucharistic Pilgrimage!
The pilgrimage will come to the Diocese of Savannah May 25–28, with stops in St. Marys, Brunswick, Darien, and Savannah. Events include Eucharistic processions, Mass, Holy Hour, and presentations about the Georgia Martyrs.
All events are free, but registration is encouraged so we can plan for the expected number of people.
