Subject: Happy Early Mother’s Day & Disney Trip Update
Happy early Mother’s Day! A friend of mine from India once told me that they don’t celebrate Mother’s Day there—because in India, every day is Mother’s Day. I always loved that sentiment.
Last year, John and James took me to the Mother’s Day brunch at the Jacksonville Zoo, and we had such a fun and memorable day. Unfortunately, they’re not hosting the brunch this year. I had hoped to take Mom with us to the zoo again, but we’ll find another way to celebrate. Do you have anything planned for Mother’s Day this year?
John and I just returned from a short vacation to Disney World. We stayed at Shades of Green, the military resort on Disney property. It’s a lovely, full-service facility with a spa, two restaurants, a pool, and a hot tub. We really enjoyed the trip, and the park crowds were surprisingly light.
There were just a couple of downsides. The bus pickup for Shades of Green is located at the far end of the Disney transport rows—stop #60 out of 60, to be exact—so we ended up using Lyft most of the time. Rides were typically between $10 and $14, which felt very reasonable given the time saved. We had some interesting drivers, including a non-English-speaking man from Cuba with his GPS set to Spanish, a young woman from Iowa wearing Yoda ears, and a retired teacher making a little extra income—it was fascinating chatting with them. You really do meet people from everywhere in Disney.
Unfortunately, I had a bad reaction to an insect bite at the park—something I’ve never experienced there before. I went looking for medical assistance but was told the first aid station wouldn’t open for another 45 minutes. I ended up at the baby care station, where the cast member spoke limited English, but I managed to find some Benadryl that helped reduce the swelling.
All in all, it was a great trip, and now we’re back home and tending to the garden. Wishing you a beautiful Mother’s Day weekend!
Warm regards,
Cathy
