FUN THINGS GOING ON - Catfish Festival 2025

Greetings!

I don’t think the weather gets any better than this. It’s such a joy to simply step outside and breathe in the air. What a blessing it is to live in this corner of the world. (Feel free to remind me of this sentiment come late August when it’s 98 degrees with 95% humidity!) But today—we enjoy.
John and I are back from his mother’s funeral in Pennsylvania. We had a wonderful turnout from the family. As with many families, the youngest generation has started to scatter. One couple made it in from Texas despite the air traffic controller mess, though a cousin in Connecticut couldn’t travel. My sister-in-law was magnificent with the organizing. She set up a card table in the living room with a large mirror laid on top, and arranged all of Betty’s brooches, costume jewelry, and earrings for the women in the family to choose from. I was especially fortunate as the only one who still wears clip earrings—Betty never pierced her ears.
The church service was well attended, with eight nephews and cousins serving as pallbearers. The cemetery was bitterly cold and mercifully brief. The luncheon afterward gave us time to reconnect with relatives we haven’t seen in years.
James was an absolute brick and stayed home with my mother at her request. He is such a blessing in our lives. He had another chess tournament in Jacksonville this weekend and won—though he didn’t earn any points because he’s ranked too high. We’re trying to figure out how to get him into larger tournaments where he can continue to grow.
Our wonderful neighbors—truly, I won the neighbor lottery—invited John, Mom, and me over for cocktails and catching up. We stayed for about two hours, just relaxing and enjoying good company. Best neighbors ever.
And now for something fun! Our office is decorating a tree this year for the St. Marys Waterfront Park display. We’re looking for theme ideas—so if you have any suggestions, please send them my way. (717-801-5900). Many thanks!
Best regards,
Cathy

We are grateful to you.
Join us at Sweet Luncheonette for Vines of Gratitude, a story-first wine tasting celebrating vineyards that give back.
We’ll pour a curated flight of wines from producers who do more than make beautiful bottles. These are wineries that invest in their workers, protect their land, revive forgotten traditions, or support their communities in tangible ways.
With each glass, you’ll hear the story behind the vineyard, the people who tend the vines, and the good their work is doing in the world. As we head into the season of thanks, you’ll also be invited to share or reflect on your own “gratitude stories” in a relaxed, welcoming setting.
Expect:
A guided tasting of thoughtfully selected wines
Small bites from the Sweet Luncheonette kitchen
Warm conversation in our candlelit space at 101 E Weed St in historic St. Marys
Come raise a glass to the people and places that make these wines possible.
