Greetings!
The Day the USPS Redefined Airmail
On June 8, 1959, the U.S. Post Office Department conducted the first and only official "missile mail" delivery. A Regulus I guided missile carrying 3,000 letters was launched from the submarine USS Barbero off the Florida coast and delivered its cargo to the Naval Auxiliary Air Station at Mayport, near Jacksonville, in just 22 minutes. The experiment was successful, although mail-by-missile never became a practical means of delivery.
As fascinating as missile mail sounds, I think I'll stick with traditional delivery methods!
On a much more local note, blueberry season has arrived. Vacuna Farms has U-pick blueberries available today, Wednesday, and Saturday. One of my favorite times of year. There is nothing quite like fresh-picked Georgia blueberries.
I hope you find something enjoyable to do this week and are taking advantage of these beautiful early summer days.
