Greetings from a Waterlogged Georgia!
My neighbor joked that I have a pool in my backyard—just without the concrete. Too true! I’m hoping for a stretch of sunny weather soon to dry things out. For now, I’ll keep gazing out at what I hope will eventually become a well-drained, beautiful backyard. Right now, it’s mostly mud—but as they say, you’ve got to break a few eggs.
On a brighter note, my outdoor furniture refurbishment project is moving along nicely. I’m in the middle of rebuilding the cushions, and I’ve included a few pictures of the progress so far, along with a sneak peek of what the finished product will look like. The red fabric is the old material. I decided against using black or white cording—it felt like it would be too busy with the patterned fabric. What do you think?

Mom is slowly mending from her dog bite. We had to make another trip to the doctor for a stronger antibiotic, since the lower bite is still a bit infected. Thankfully, the swelling has gone down, and she’s moving around more easily without the walker. A silver lining from all this: several neighbors came by to introduce themselves, and she’s even been invited to join a card game later this week. That’s real progress!
James had a busy weekend with two chess tournaments—he placed second in Brunswick and took first in Jacksonville. This coming weekend, he’ll be judging a local tournament. Their group is growing quickly, and since there aren’t any established organizations between Brunswick and Jacksonville (Blanding Blvd.), they’re working to make this a permanent part of the chess circuit. If you know anyone who might be interested in joining, feel free to reach out to James Holman at 717-542-8156.
Do you have any special plans for Labor Day? John and I will be heading to Disney for three days to celebrate his birthday. It will feel a little strange with so many rides closed, but we’re looking forward to the getaway. I’ll still be available by phone, text, or email if you need me. Next year, we’re planning a trip to Dollywood—this time, with more focus on exploring historic sites in the area.
Best Regards,
Cathy
