Over the past month, I’ve been cautiously watching the flower beds in front of our home. In the dozen or so years we've lived here, I've planted all kinds of blooms—flowers, herbs, and even flowering shrubs—only to have them nibbled away by our local wildlife. This time, however, something’s different. The flowers are still standing tall, blooming brightly. I suspect the recent surge in nearby construction may have encouraged some of our furry friends to relocate—at least temporarily. It leaves me feeling both hopeful and a little wistful. I imagine when the construction dust settles and the noise fades, they'll quietly return… and likely resume their flower-snacking ways.
Speaking of community activity, all eyes are now on the upcoming 4th of July Festival in downtown St. Marys. As board members of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), John and I will be there volunteering at our fundraising booth. We’ll be selling raffle tickets to support local causes such as the St. Marys Submarine Museum, Honor Flights, and leadership programs for NJROTC students at area high schools.
Our fundraiser is held only once every two years, and this year’s raffle is truly special—a WWI Colt Model 1911 pistol, beautifully cased, with historic ties to the Meuse-Argonne offensive. If you’re downtown for the celebration, please stop by our booth and say hello—we’d love to see you!
Best regards,
Cathy
