FUN THINGS GOING ON - trail Walk with Goat Herd

Greetings!

This is one of my favorite times of year.  The humidity had dropped, the air is crisp but still warm enough to get in the pool.  It is also the time of year to start getting ready for winter.  This includes washing all area rugs in the driveway (on a nice sunny, breezy day), washing all the windows (which James and I have down to a system) and getting the HVAC and gas fireplace serviced.  Not exciting, but important.  I mentioned a few weeks ago we bought some steak at Kingsland meat for John's birthday - best steak we've had in years.  If you don't know, they have special sales on Fridays.  They are worth checking out.  We were at the commissary yesterday and I had a moment looking at some of the "discount" prices for meat there.  I just looked at my husband and informed him I hopped he liked chicken.

The other fun thing we did this week was attend the Oktoberfest on Base.  We went with some neighbors and Mom.  The music was great and they organized some participatory competitions like bier stein holding (holding a full stein out straight at shoulder height).  The women's got up to about 5 minutes the men made 10.  The winners got goody bags.  The food (included in $25 ticket) was excellent and a take home ceramic stein was included with the ticket.  Proud of our MWR!

Saturday 10-11:30am
Nature Trail Walk with the Goat Herd
$2–$15 per participant
Reservations: jaybirdhammockfarm.com
Join us for a leisurely Guided Nature Trail Walk with the Goat Herd at Jaybird Hammock Farm. This slow-paced outdoor experience invites you to connect with the land, the animals, and the natural rhythms of the farm.
Once all guests have arrived, the goats will be released from their enclosure. Participants should plan to remain for the full experience until the goats are safely returned to their enclosure at the end of the walk.
Farm owner, naturalist, and biologist Tina Jenkins will be your guide, sharing insight into the farm’s animals, native plants, wildlife, and landscape as we stroll at an easy pace along approximately one mile of nature trails.
The walk winds around two ponds, past the donkeys’ enclosure, beneath a large grandmother oak, and into the pine forest. We’ll pause to relax in pine forest hammocks while the goats browse freely around us, offering time to rest, observe, and take in the quiet beauty of the woods.
  Arrival & Participation
• Please arrive on time to check in
• Participants should plan to stay for the full duration of the experience (approximately 1.5hr)
  What to Bring
• Water or a beverage of your choice

• Comfortable clothing

  What Not to Bring

• No wicker hats or bags (goats think they're snacks)
• No natural wood, seed, or plant-based jewelry (goats think they're snacks)
• No pets
  Important Notes

  Weather Cancellations
Florida weather is unpredictable, and weather-related cancellations at Jaybird Hammock Farm are never made lightly. We consider on-site conditions like standing water and setup timing when making these decisions—not forecasts alone. We know cancellations can disrupt your travel, hotel, or childcare plans, just as they impact our small farm’s revenue. We’ve experienced guest frustration when the call is made too early and the weather clears, and also when it’s made last-minute. There’s no perfect moment—but we always do our best to make a thoughtful, safety-based decision. Once a cancellation is made, it is final. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
