FUN THINGS GOING ON - Women's Wine & Wealth

The recent stretch of rain has certainly taken its toll. My backyard is a muddy mess, and I’ve even noticed mushrooms popping up in the neighbors’ yards. I think we are all ready to see some much-needed Georgia sunshine.

Back-to-school activities are in full swing. School buses are back on the roads, and pre-season football has already begun. I’m looking forward to settling into a steady fall routine. In the meantime, I’ve started a new project: rebuilding the cushions for our outdoor furniture. At this stage, I’m deconstructing the existing cushions to use as pattern pieces—there will be twelve in total. I was a bit surprised at the quality of the original fill from a large retailer, even though the cushions were purchased at a discount. For the replacements, I’m using four-inch high-density foam with a dacron wrap for added comfort and durability.

The fabrics I’ve chosen include a patterned design for the edges, aqua for the tops and bottoms of the seat cushions, and green for accent pillows (using some of the repurposed fill). The seat backs will be reversible—one side in aqua and the other in the pattern. I am still debating whether white or black piping would provide the best finish. White would keep the look fresh and light, while black would offer a more defined, tailored appearance.

On another note, my mother is recovering well from a recent dog bite. She required antibiotics after developing an infection, but thankfully she is healing. Per HOA requirements, I did notify animal control, and they were very professional in handling the matter. We are now turning our attention to her upcoming 90th birthday. A close friend will be taking her to a wedding in St. Augustine, which has altered our original birthday plans. We will plan a celebration once she returns so she can fully enjoy both occasions.

Best regards,

Cathy
