Our next-door neighbor brought their grandson over for his very first trick-or-treat. He was dressed as the cutest little Elmo, pumpkin bucket in hand — absolutely precious. We had quite a mix of visitors this year, including a surprising number of older teens with some wonderfully creative homemade costumes. All told, we had about 50 trick-or-treaters and nearly cleared out our candy bowl!
Mom and Mary joined us on the porch, which made the evening extra special. Mary flew back home yesterday after five wonderful days together. It’s always hard to say goodbye, and the ride to the airport tugs at the heart every time.
One of the highlights of her visit was taking a tour of the USS Maryland with our Kingsbay MOAA group on Saturday. What an incredible experience. I’m grateful I’ve been keeping up with my stretching — we navigated ladders, narrow passageways, and a couple of circular openings barely 18 inches off the ground. It’s amazing to see what life is like aboard a submarine, and it’s something I’ll never forget.
With Halloween now packed away, our Pilgrims and pumpkins are coming out as we shift into Thanksgiving mode. We found the Pilgrims in a store in New Jersey one year and had to have them as they both have red hair like my children.🍂
On a more personal note, John’s mother has been moved from memory care to hospice. We’ll be staying close to home, and we would truly appreciate your prayers during this time.
